Marketplace listing quality checker

Most listings lose ranking to something boring. A title two hundred characters long that gets cut at eighty, backend terms repeating words already in the title, a promotional phrase that quietly suppresses the whole page. Paste yours in and see what is actually wrong with it.

Keyword coverage

Nothing here is going to get the listing pulled. What is left is the difference between a listing that is allowed to rank and one that actually does.

Amazon counts backend search terms in bytes, not characters, and it stops reading at the limit rather than warning you.

What to change

  • Only 4 of 5 bullets are filled

Empty bullet slots are free space. Each one is indexed and each one answers a question the buyer would otherwise ask in a message.

  • Description is 379 characters

Aim for at least 400. It is the one place you can answer objections in full sentences.

  • Backend search terms use only 74 of 249 bytes

This is the cheapest ranking space you own. Fill it with the spellings, synonyms and regional words you would never put in a title.

  • 10 backend terms are already in your title or bullets

Repeating bedsheet, double, bed, cotton, king adds nothing to ranking and spends bytes you could use on a synonym.

  • Title length is 96 characters

Comfortably inside the useful range for Amazon India.

  • No promotional claims

Nothing in here reads as a price or ranking claim.

  • Every target keyword is covered

Each one is either written out as a phrase or has all of its words somewhere on the page.

Keyword by keyword

  • double bed bedsheet

    all words in the title

  • cotton bedsheet

    exact phrase, in the title

  • king size bedsheet

    all words in the title

  • bedsheet with pillow covers

    all words in the title

  • floral bedsheet

    all words in the title

A term in the title carries far more weight than the same term buried in a description. If a keyword matters enough to target, it should earn its place up top or be dropped.

How this works

  • Title, bullets and description are measured against the limits for the marketplace you pick, and against the range where the text is still readable in search results rather than truncated.
  • Backend search terms are counted in bytes rather than characters, because that is how the limit is applied and it is why a term list that looks short can still be cut in half.
  • Any backend word that already appears in your title or bullets is flagged as waste. Repeating a word does not improve ranking, it just spends the byte allowance.
  • Promotional language is treated as an error rather than a style note, because price and ranking claims are a common reason for a listing being suppressed without an obvious warning.
  • Your target keywords are checked separately for whether they appear at all and whether they appear in the title, which is where the ranking weight sits.

Questions sellers ask

How long should a product title be?

Long enough to carry the brand, the product type and the two or three attributes a buyer filters on. On Amazon that usually lands between eighty and a hundred and fifty characters. Longer titles still get indexed, but the part past the cut off is read only by the algorithm, and a wall of keywords lowers the click through rate of the people who do see it.

Why are backend search terms measured in bytes?

Because the limit is applied to the encoded string. Plain English letters take one byte each so it looks like a character count, but accented letters and anything in an Indian script take two or three. If you write terms in Hindi you will hit the limit far sooner than the character count suggests.

Should I repeat my title keywords in the backend terms?

No. A word indexed from the title is already indexed. The backend field is the place for the things you cannot say in a title, which means misspellings people actually type, regional names for the product, synonyms, and the older model numbers buyers still search by.

What counts as a promotional claim?

Anything about price, ranking, availability or a promise. Best seller, number one, free shipping, lowest price, money back guarantee. These belong in an offer or a coupon, not in the listing copy, and having them in the title is a straightforward way to lose the listing for a week.

Does the score mean anything on the marketplace?

No, it is ours. Marketplaces have their own content quality measures and they do not publish the formula. The score here is a way of ranking your own fixes so you do the ones that matter first.

Is my listing text sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. If you want a catalogue checked and rewritten in bulk rather than one product at a time, that is a service we run.
